Here at Aurorae, we consider each and everyone one of our supporters family. We live in the spirit of yoga and community. We also believe the earth and beauty that exists around us is instrumental to our well-being. Through this love, we offer our support to one of Dennis Ingui’s sons, Chris, who runs a volunteer organization, the Jolly Rovers.
The Jolly Rovers is an all-volunteer group that designs, repairs and builds hiking trails and park paths using only the natural elements of the surrounding areas they work on. These trails are not only used by the serious hiking community, but also the Boy/Girl Scouts, Veterans, students of all ages, bikers or anyone just looking to get out into the fresh air and take a hike or a walk in the park.
Who Are the Jolly Rovers?
The Jolly Rovers began with a small group of ten volunteers who met on the Appalachian Trail; these ten were veterans of a unique multi-year educational program with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at Bear Mountain State Park, NY, where professional trail builders from all over the country trained volunteers in the craft of traditional stonework for the benefit of the legendary Appalachian Trail.
In 2011, three of these ten got together over dinner to develop an idea; to take the unique stone working skills learned in one park and spread them to all parks in need, not just in New York, but all over the country. When the three approached the ten with the idea, all were in. This jolly group of friends who committed themselves to rove became the Jolly Rovers.
What the Jolly Rovers Need and Why?
To this end, they seek to grow. They’ve been successful in testing out this growth over the past 4 years, with volunteer service hours growing by 25% annually and membership increasing at roughly the same rate. In order to sustain this growth and expand their reach to more regions they’ll need to take the next step in officially forming as a tax exempt non-profit organization.
