It is hard to believe it’s already time to start looking forward to 2015. Now is the time to start setting goals and resolutions for the next year. What do you hope to accomplish? Do you have physical goals, financial goals, personal goals? We have made a list of five New Year’s resolutions that everyone can and should make!
Commit/recommit to a consistent yoga practice. This one is huge! It is through a consistent yoga practice that we start to see real changes in our lives, both physically and emotionally. If you already are a dedicated yogi who practices 3 times a week, then great! Recommit to that and stick with it to find even bigger transformations. If you don’t practice regularly, then try it out. Join a yoga studio close to your house or office and buy a package of classes, then schedule your classes a week in advance to ensure you go.
Or, you can commit to a home practice and use online videos to help you get your flow in a few times a week. Be sure to stock up on yoga gear to keep you safe during your practice, like our thick and eco safe yoga mats! Try committing to at least three classes a week in January and see what happens — on and off your mat!
Strength train. Strength training is important for people of all ages and all body types. You can choose the level of training you want to do based on what is best for you, but there is something in it for everyone! It helps keep your core strong, which is important for overall health and wellness. It also can increase metabolism and calorie burn. Try our NEW Aurorae Fitness Resistance/Exercise Band Set to either pump up or kick off your strength training in the new year! Try strength training just twice a week and see if you notice any differences in your balance, your mood, and your ability to open the pickle jar!
Feed yourself real food. We can work out really hard, but if we aren’t eating well, we won’t reach our full potential of feeling good from the inside out. There are many fad diets out there claiming to cut out certain foods and include others, but the simplest “diet” out there is just to eat real food.
Our friends at Ultimate Superfoods have some awesome and delicious products that make it easy to incorporate real, healthy foods into your diet. Try eating nothing but real food five days a week and notice any differences in your body, skin, digestion, and mood!
Be kind. This goes for how you treat yourself and how you treat others. We can all use a reminder in kindness every once in a while, and the new year is a great time to recommit to being compassionate. Like most things, kindness starts within. Practice self love this year; if you happen to not eat well, skip your workout, miss a deadline, sleep through an alarm, it’s okay! Give yourself room mess up without being too hard on yourself.
The mindset of kindness and compassion can then spread to how you think of, speak of, speak to, and act towards others. Try going a whole month, or two, or twelve, without gossiping or speaking ill of anyone, including yourself! Take note of any shifts that occur in how you see yourself or the world.
Commit to happiness. Every situation in our lives comes with a choice; committing to happiness means to choose to be happy. Stuck in traffic making you late for work and there’s nothing you can do about it? You could either be stressed out and grumpy or you can let it go and be thankful for the extra few minutes in your car to listen to your favorite song. Either way, you are late for work; the only thing that changes is how you feel about the situation.
Choosing happiness seems like such a simple and cliche idea, but it really is a HUGE revelation. Try going one whole month without complaining AT ALL (even to yourself) and see the transformations start to take place. Choose happiness this year!
We hope you will commit to these 5 New Year’s resolutions with us this year and forever. Practicing yoga, being strong, eating well, being kind, and choosing happiness are such simple ideas that have the potential to make radical differences in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Happy New Years to all of you, from all of us at Aurorae Yoga!
