Triathlon training season has creeped up out of nowhere given these temperatures! This means there are many races of all different lengths and difficulties that will be happening soon all over United States. If you currently solely practice yoga, it can feel intimidating to start higher intensity workouts such as biking, swimming, and running, but triathlon training boasts many, many health benefits, including weight loss, more energy, better mental health, and more! We have some tips for those who practice yoga who want to try their first triathlon and don’t know where to get started with their training!
- Keep yoga a part of your fitness routine. When you start to incorporate running and biking into your routine, your muscles will get tighter (and stronger!). It’s important to keep your yoga practice to lengthen out all those tight muscles and avoid injuries from over tight muscles.
- Start small. Ambition is good, but don’t start off with an Ironman as your first triathlon. Try a small one in your area that has smaller distances (sprint Triathlons are nice, short ones to start with) so you can ease into it and get the feel for the event.
- Stay relaxed. It can be easy to get swept away in the competitiveness and the scheduled workouts or training for a triathlon. Having such a rigid schedule can take some of the fun out of the process. Breathe, give yourself breaks when you need it, and try to have fun!
These are just some of Aurorae’s tips on how those who practice yoga can incorporate some more high intensity workouts into their life in anticipation of competing in your first triathlon! Just remember during your triathlon training to keep your head high and a smile on your face and a positive attitude…you’ll complete one in no time!
